Regino Sainz de la Maza

Segovia & His Contemporaries Vol.9

Regino Sainz de la Maza 1929-49 CD $19.95

Some of the pieces recorded by Regino Sainz de la Maza written by Francisco Tarrega were recorded c. 1929. These tremolo pieces are: Evocacion-(Recuerdos de la Alhambra) and Reverie-(Sueño) I can tell you this because I have the Odeon January 1930 record catalog in which they are listed. The producers of this CD dated the works to 1935-1947. El Vito and Mazurka-Marieta arranged by Sainz de la Maza were available by 1940, this I can tell you because I have a Casa Iriberri advertisement from the June 1940 "Revista de la Guitarra"--the magazine of the Asociacion Guitarristica Argentina of Buenos Aires-the World Center of the Classical Guitar. I have identified the 3 Tarrega pieces for my buyers, as the producers were unable to do so. This discographical information will be included in my book "Annotations for the History of the Classical Guitar in Argentina 1822-2000".

Here's a question. Which concerto was never performed by Andrés Segovia? It was the Concierto de Aranjuez, because it was dedicated to Regino Sainz de la Maza.

The maestro, Andrés Segovia, is represented in this compilation by pieces written by Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Ponce.
