Denis Azabagic The Guitar Foundation of America's International Competition 1998 Winner plays Narvaez, Bach, Sor, Barrios & Rivera.
50 minutes $19.95 The guitar used is by the Dutch luthier Otto Vowinkel. Born in Tuzia, Bosnia in 1972, Denis Azabagic is regarded as one of the best classic guitarists of his generation. He is the winner of nine of the most prestigious international guitar competitions, including the 1995 Francisco Tárrega International Competition in Benicasim, Spain and the 1998 Guitar Foundation of America Competition. Mr. Azabagic also performs in the flute/guitar Cavatina Duo with his wife Eugenia, and has appeared as a soloist with various orchestras in Europe and the United States. In this video Mr. Azabagic performs compositions representative of the guitar repertoire from the days of its predecessor, the Spanish vihuela, to the present: Canción del Emperador and Diferencias sobre 'Guardame las vacas' by Luis de Narvaez; Partita for Solo Flute by J. S. Bach (transcribed for guitar by Mr. Azabagic); Variations on a Theme by Mozart, op. 9. by Fernando Sor; La Catedral and Una Limosna por el amor de Dios by Agustin Barrios Mangore; and a brilliant contemporary piece by Carlos Rafael Rivera entitled Whirler of the Dance. |
