   These three Venezuelan compositions share something in common. It is the search for the popular urban music, popular music of the traditional roots in the ambiance of the present musical stage, without the purist manipulation referring to the music of Venezuela's previous repertoire.

   Federico Ruiz brings a harmony influenced by Carribean music, introduces the rhythm of the Joropo.

   Leon Zapata utilizes the recurring rhythm of the dance, with the rhythms of the Merengue,Valse and Joropo.

   Finally, Alex Rodriguez, although referring to the past with the fingerprint left by Antonio Lauro, the author utilizes Venezuelan forms, with a language that shows his experience in the world of Jazz.

 

   Federico Ruiz was born in Caracas in 1948. He studied with Vincete Emilio Soto and other maestros of the country. Although he is a maestro of the keyboard, he has written music for chamber orchestra, symphony and motion pictures.. He has received numerous awards since 1971.His compositional contribution is the first piece written for the guitar by a non guitarist in Venezuela.

 

   Leon Zapata was born in Caracas in 1955. He has been involved in music since 1974. Besides studying with various maestros in venezuela he studied at the Tschaikovsky Conservatory in Kiev, Russia. His musical contribution is an award winning piece from 1995. His musical contribution is written in 5/8.

 

   Alex Rodriguez was born in Caracas in 1952. Having studied with nationally known maestros since 1967, he also studied with Regino Sainz de la Maza, in Madrid between 1969-71.
